About

Brooke
Reid

Brooke Reid is a multidisciplinary artist working in still life photography in Atlanta, GA. Informed by her background in floral design and installation art, her current practice involves creating and photographing cinematic still life scenes made from cut flowers, preserved bugs, birds, and found objects: she is drawn to materials that are in their own process of decay, that represent a singular place in time.

Inspired in equal parts by the paintings of the Dutch Masters and the photographic tableaux of contemporary artists such as Gregory Crewdson and Julie Blackmon, she draws on her work with flowers to build large-scale botanical installations for the purpose of a single frame. She often collaborates with her husband, cinematographer Kyler Dennis, who lights her still life scenes to impart a painterly feel to the work. The finished pieces she creates blur the lines between photography and painting, her installations contained worlds unto themselves: grounded in reality but just beyond our reach.
