Banana Leaves
Each time I shoot new work, there is often an element-floral or otherwise-that becomes a focal point. The incredible array of banana clusters I was able to source in the fall of 2022 was just that. Loosely inspired by a Paul Gauguin painting I saw at the Met a few months earlier, this image is at once moody and also bright, with an element of the ethereal in the plumes of flowering smokebush tucked throughout the composition.
It’s perhaps the weirdest composition in this series, but one of my favorites. Unlike the other images in this series, here, a bird flies into frame just at the very edge, perhaps on its way to finish the work of devouring the fruit below.

Materials/proof of authenticity: This piece is printed on archival Epson Hot Press 100% Cotton Rag paper. Each print comes signed and numbered on the back, and includes a certificate of authenticity from the artist. This substrate is highly susceptible to oils from our skin; handling with care prior to framing is recommended.
